Umayyad Caliphate of Damascus, Abd al-Malik. Dirham. (Ar. 2.88g/27mm). 81H. Abarqubadh / أبارقوباذ. (Klat 17; Album 126). VF+/VF. Minor marks on reverse. Extremely rare example. Of extraordinary rarity, especially in this 81 AH date, of which we have only been able to document three examples auctioned in the last twenty years. The Wasit mint, located between Wasit and al-Basra, in present-day Iraq, is one of the rarest and most prized Umayyad issues among collectors, making it a very difficult addition to any specialized collection.
