Tiberio Claudio César Augusto Germánico… cuarto emperador romano de la Dinastía Julio-Claudia y probablemente el más olvidado y enigmático de todos los primeros emperadores de Roma. Enigmático porque tras unos evidentes defectos físicos y una marcada tartamudez, se escondía un emperador inteligente y eficaz que consiguió sobrevivir a su sobrino, el mismísimo Calígula. Cayo Suetonio lo definió así:
“Su persona ostentaba cierto aspecto de grandeza y dignidad, ya en pie o sentado, pero sobre todo en reposo, pues era alto y esbelto, tenía un rostro bello, hermosos cabellos blancos, y cuello robusto; pero cuando marchaba, sus inseguras piernas le hacían tambalearse, y cuando hablaba, tanto en broma como en serio, le afeaban sus taras: una risa desagradable, una cólera más repulsiva aún, que le hacía echar espumarajos por la boca, nariz goteante, un insoportable balbuceo y un continuo temblor de cabeza que crecía al ocuparse en cualquier negocio por insignificante que fuese“.
