ALMOHADS, Anonymous, quoting Imam Al-Mahdi. Dirham. (Ar. 1.51g/15mm). Fās (Fez) / فاس. (Hohertz 618, cataloged as RRR). Very Fine. Very rare and beautiful example; we only have record of one other example of the same type, auctioned by Soler y Llach & Martí Hervera, Auction 1085 (26/02/2015), Lot No. 371.

This coin features striking ornamental Kufic calligraphy in the Hafsid style, similar to coins attributed to Abu Hafs 'Umar al-Murtada with the mint 'Al-Hadrat al-Muminiya al-Murtadiya' (Hohertz 563). Therefore, it was possibly minted around the same time by a governor in the region.
