La ley de 16 de julio de 1949 ratificó la anterior de 1946 con la salvedad referente al material de acuñación empleado: la plata quedaba sustituida por el níquel. La idea de recuperar el icónico duro a imagen y semejanza de los acuñados entre el XVI y el XIX, se topó con el grave inconveniente de un país aún en postguerra. Con lo que no contaban las autoridades era con el súbito encarecimiento del níquel a principios del año 51, como consecuencia directa de la guerra de Corea, lo que provocó que se paralizaran prematuramente las acuñaciones de 1951 y 1952, prácticamente de níquel puro. Las emisiones de estos dos años quedaron reducidas a escasos ejemplares que nunca llegaron a circular y que, al parecer, fueron repartidas entre altos miembros del gobierno franquista. Nos encontramos, pues, ante una de las piezas más escasas y raras de la numismática del Estado Español que contrasta con la enorme producción que de estas mismas piezas se hicieron en 1949 y 1950. Hubo que esperar hasta 1957 para que se retomara la acuñación de los famosos duros o 5 Pesetas pero estos ya lo hicieron con un diámetro y peso notablemente inferiores.

What the authorities did not count on was the sudden increase in the price of nickel at the beginning of the year 51, as a direct consequence of the Korean War, which caused the 1951 and 1952 minting, practically of pure nickel, to be prematurely stopped. The issues of these two years were reduced to a few copies that never circulated and that, apparently, were distributed among high-ranking members of the Franco government. We find ourselves, therefore, before one of the fewest and rarest pieces of numismatics in the Spanish State, which contrasts with the enormous production of these same pieces in 1949 and 1950. It was not until 1957 that the minting of the famous duros or 5 Pesetas but these have already been made with a notably lower diameter and weight.
