En el Congreso de Verona, celebrado entre octubre y diciembre de 1822, la Santa Alianza había acordado prestar al rey de España el apoyo solicitado. Tras la retirada de Inglaterra, fueron Francia, Prusia, Austria y Rusia los que formaron la Cuádruple Alianza que el 7 de Abril y al mando del duque de Angulema entró en España para restituir a Fernando VII como monarca absoluto. Esta medalla, evocadora de «la gloriosa restitución de S. M. al goce de la plenitud de sus soberanos derechos», fue acuñada por real orden de febrero de 1824 en la ceca de Segovia por el maestro grabador interino Nicolás Bartolomé y Montejo.
