Creadas bajo el reinado de Carlos III y con el objetivo de fomentar la economía de los lugares donde se encontraban, las Sociedades Económicas de Amigos del País arrancan en 1763 con la Guipuzcoana y prosiguió con una de mayor extensión como fue la vascongada que, curiosamente, no se circunscribió exclusivamente al territorio vasco. Fue a iniciativa de Pedro Rodríguez de Campomanes, Fiscal del Consejo de Castilla, quién, con algunos cambios respecto del modelo original vasco, llevaría a todas las provincias del país una Sociedad unificada y de claro carácter reformista ya en el año 1775.

Created under the reign of Carlos III and with the aim of promoting the economy of the places where they were located, the Economic Societies of Friends of the Country started in 1763 with the Guipuzcoana and continued with a larger one such as the Basque that, curiously, it was not limited exclusively to the Basque territory. It was at the initiative of Pedro Rodríguez de Campomanes, Prosecutor of the Council of Castile, who, with some changes with respect to the original Basque model, would bring a unified Society with a clear reformist character to all the country's provinces as early as 1775.
