El 11 de septiembre de 1759, aún con el nuevo rey en Italia, se realizó en Madrid la proclamación de Carlos III. El alcalde de la ciudad, en presencia de la alta nobleza, alzó el pendón real en la plaza Mayor y gritó: “¡Castilla, Castilla, Castilla por el rey don Carlos III!”, a lo que la multitud respondió con vivas. Posteriormente fueron arrojadas al pueblo monedas de oro y plata con la efigie del nuevo rey.
