Tratar de hacer un compendio, un resumen cualquiera que sea, de un país de casi 10 millones de metros cuadrados que alberga 1400 millones de habitantes, que tiene frontera con 14 estados soberanos y una cultura milenaria se antoja una tarea ardua y complicada. Desde el punto de vista numismático no es fácil, tampoco, abarcar una colección como la que presentamos en esta subasta, más si cabe si tenemos en cuenta que esta colección es fruto del esfuerzo de toda una vida de coleccionismo de un único cedente.

Desde la era de la dinastía Han (206 a.C. – 221 d.C.) la cuál consolidó a China como unidad político-administrativa y que impulsó el wu zhu como circulante predominante hasta la dinastía Song con la que se inicia un periodo considerado de esplendor que incluye entre sus principales características el ser el primer gobierno del mundo en usar el papel moneda, pasando por la Tang, a principios del siglo VII d.C, la representación de monetaria del medievo chino es extensa, destacando una amplia selección de los tipos más usados a lo largo de toda la numismática china: el Cash. Este tipo de moneda, por lo general de cobre, fue usado, no sólo por China sino también por otros países del sudeste asiático, entre el siglo II a.C. y el siglo XX d.C. conservando una de sus principales señas de identidad: el agujero cuadrado central que permitía que las monedas se unieran mediante un cordel para crear valores más altos ya que, por lo general, eran monedas de escaso valor.

Superado el medievo y la dinastía Ming, incluidos sus últimos y turbulentos años de rebeliones campesinas, es la Dinastía Qing la que toma el relevo protagonista en la colección. No en vano, esta estirpe se perpetúa en el poder del país desde el 1644 a 1912. Tras ellos las injerencias de occidente y guerras varias nos llevan hasta el inicio de un periodo de República hasta 1949 y una posterior República Popular. Los “Fatman dollar”, acuñados con el propósito de imponer cierto orden ante la caótica situación del sistema monetario chino a principios del siglo XX, junto con los dólares de comercio o los de dragón son otros buenos ejemplos del tipo de piezas que podemos encontrar en este compendio.

Sobra decir que en una colección de esta magnitud, tanto cuantitativa como cronológica, encontraremos un gran número de cecas, prefecturas y provincias representadas, así como valores, módulo y materiales, destacando también la inclusión de medallas y amuletos.
Mención aparte merece uno de los álbumes dedicado exclusivamente a moneda del Tíbet, compuesto por 245 monedas de los siglos XIX y XX (etapas del Tibet independiente y Tíbet bajo dominio de China) donde modulos como los de Tangka, Sho, Rupee y Srang, entre otros, llamarán, sin duda, la atención de cualquier coleccionista que se precie.
