La iconografía de las acuñaciones de Icalcuscen se fundamenta en la imagen del rostro masculino (en casi todos los casos a derecha) en el anverso, y con la representación en el reverso del jinete con dos caballos, o bien el jinete lancero, pero siempre portando el escudo redondo que nos facilita la identificación de las monedas de esta ceca. En lo que respecta al nombre de la ceca, expresado en caracteres ibéricos meridionales, aparece de tres formas que son coincidentes: IKALENSKEN, IKALESKEN o IKALES. Mención aparte es lo acertado o no de la denominación de esta pieza como denario. Mientras muchos estudiosos se oponen a tal denominación, lo cierto es que se tratan ya de monedas acuñadas bajo el dominio romano y que son consecuencia directa del interés financiero y fiscal de la propia administración romana.
