Cuentan las crónicas de la época que aquel viernes 12 de septiembre las salvas de artillería anunciaban la salida desde el Palacio Real con destino a la estación de ferrocarril de Mediodía de la reina hacia el sur del país. Viajaban además de la reina, el rey y sus dos hijos mayores, el Príncipe de Asturias y la infanta Doña Isabel. La lista de personajes ilustres que le acompañan era realmente extensa y el número de ciudades y pueblos a visitar también: Toledo, Ciudad Real, Jaén, Granada, Sevilla… hasta llegar a Murcia con paradas realmente significativas como esta de Málaga que ilustra nuestra pieza. Ni que decir tiene que en cada una de estas paradas la algarabía, las inauguraciones e incluso las construcciones de arcos de triunfo fueron la constante de un viaje que se dio por finalizado con la llegada, de nuevo, a palacio de la familia el 29 de octubre de ese mismo año de 1862.
