Una guerra acarrea gastos y necesita de épica nacional. Especialmente cuando las arcas del país están pasando serias dificultades. No es casual que, en este contexto de exaltación y penurias, se haga pública una lista interminable de donaciones tanto públicas y privadas para sufragar dicho conflicto: universidades, estudiantes, obispados, diputaciones provinciales, ayuntamientos… y cómo no la propia reina: “que se tasen y vendan todas mis joyas si es necesario al logro de tan santa empresa, que se disponga sin reparo de mi patrimonio particular para el bien y la gloria de mis hjos (…)” así reza en el anverso de esta histórica medalla.
